Weld Center Caps

Another neat problem showed up with the Weld Wheels.  Besides the creaking that happens once in a while with the center caps, I found out the front caps retain water.  I washed the truck one day.  Dried it and drove it in the garage.  It sat there for about two weeks.  It was time to re-torque the bolts, so I unscrewed the center cap and water poored out all over (about 1/2 cup).  There's a little damage to the finish, but I believe it will polish out later this spring.

Well, I decided to kill two birds with one stone hopefully.  I have this electrical conduit covering Thomas & Betts #.  It should be available at any electrical supply.  This protects wires from rubbing on the bare metal in cutouts.

I cut four one inch sections (four per wheel) and placed them on the center caps.  Shown here is the front center cap with them positioned.

Once in place, the water will run right out and the plastic will help keep things quiet maybe.  I've only put a few miles on so far so time will tell.  I'm worried about the bolts loosening up and the dirt buildup on the plastic areas.

I'm going to go bullistic if I loose one of these covers on the freeway!!
